Dario Tortorelli (Italy, 1977)
Born in a small town in the south of Italy, from a young age Dario felt that dance, music and art in general were his future. At the age of 14, he received his first formal dance training at the Alda Russo dance school in Laterza (Italy). A year later moved to Florence, where he studied the Cecchetti method at the Brenda Hamlyn School. In 1994, he started to dance professionally at the Jeune Bellet International Rosella Hightower (Cannes) and 2 years later he was soloist at the Ballet de l’Opera de Nice. In 2001, he arrived to the Netherlands where he danced for Introdans. He decided to move to Rotterdam and start a freelance existence as a performer and dance teacher. Since then he has participated in dance projects with Jaakko Toivonen, Conny Janssen, Ann Van Den Broek,
Bruno Listopad, Sara Lourenço and Lucinda Childs.
He taught for Dansateliers, Conny Janssen Danst, Dance Works Rotterdam, IALS - Istituto Addestramento Lavoratori dello Spettacolo in Rome. During his career Dario had the opportunity to create a few short dance pieces:
A l’ombre du songe (1995), Assise (1998),
Headphones (2002), Mantis Regina (2006), Romeo Heart (2009).
It’s in 2009 that he discovered a passion for film. In 2010 he made ‘I have lost nature’ (short studies for his dance solo ‘Romeo Heart’).
